It’s Time for Quotes by the One and Only, Brother Jeff…

I’ve written before about my younger brother, Jeffrey, who happens to have short-term memory loss, along with a few other little quirks. He is one-of-a-kind and keeps me and our entire crew in suspense of what he might say next…hilarious, obnoxious, or embarrassing.

Every once in a while I like to share Jeff’s most recent comments, an idea I picked up from Patty, at He Said What blog, who also shares humorous stories and quotes from her special needs son.

So without further ado here are some most-memorable as of late… (Jeff’s words bolded)

Upon me trying to get Jeff to laugh, which I can almost always do…Alicia, what is your attitude fit problem with me?”

Or his other version goes like this, all while laughing almost uncontrollably: “Alicia, what is your attitude fitness with me?”

And sometimes when I call him “Kid” (because after all he’s my little kid-brother) I get this as a response: “Alicia, I’m not a kid, I’m a man of an adult cause I have a beard!”

When he’s cracking up and I ask, “you good bro?” “I’m having a laugh attitude fit!”…simultaneously, hardly being able to catch his breath in-between roaring chuckles.

Jeffrey loves to read books (usually encyclopedia types or almost anything nonfiction) and last month I was giving him and my mom a hard time telling him he should read his books out loud…to our mom… “No, Alicia, I like reading inside my throat…I like reading inside my mouth.”

When I mentioned it again, a different time, he replied, “I like reading inside me, inside my voice.”

Recently, he must’ve been worried about talking too much, so he told me this story… “I made a reminder note that I used to be called, Motormouth, and I don’t want to be called that and talking so much, so I’m gonna start being quiet.” …Immediately, after telling me this, he belts out into a loud, little sing-song, “What a Beautiful Morning.” …a Jeff original of course…Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure singing still counts as talking, right?

When our grandma was sick, in the hospital, Jeffrey needed to use the restroom, I patiently waited outside the door for him. The toilet boisterously flushes, and Jeffrey starts absolutely obnoxiously laughing and then talking to himself through endless laughter he manages to spout out regarding the toilet’s flush, “WOW!! That is a loud one, I’ve never heard one that loud before. That is loud!!!” …his laughter thundered on long after the toilet’s flushing blast came to rest. I feel sorry for anyone else who might have been in there if this was a multi-person bathroom…

A few weeks after the New Year holiday, our family spent a lot of time at the nursing home with my grandma being on hospice. Jeff sat in the waiting area in the hallway off and on, and the rest of us (in my grandma’s room) could hear every word he spoke to the nursing staff. He kept chipperly telling everyone, “Happy New Year” as they walked passed him in the hallway and many of them got to hear the greeting multiple times. (Thank you short term memory loss.) We laughed as we’d hear the same person’s voice politely reply back for the umpteenth time with another, “Happy New Year.” And then the next nurse would come along, and same thing. On and on.

Jeffrey—when he noticed my grandma’s oxygen machine: “Hey what is that air conditioner on her?”

My sweet grandma, literally on her deathbed and here’s Jeffrey: “Hey grandma I have a bank account, pretty cool right?!”

Me thinking…umm I’m banking on the fact that she doesn’t give a dime about it at this point.

When I reminded him to, “please keep your hands to yourself.” He shot back with, “Okay, I don’t want to be spreading the coronavirus, you bonehead.”

And then later, to the nurse: “I got you, babe.”🤦🏼‍♀️

While reading one of his books, he came to a spot that showed, 2-4, and he asked us, “Hey, do I say a slash when I read that?”

“Alicia, call me Chatterbox…it’s better than Motormouth.”

When wanting to show his youngest niece (a year old) one of his hundred-plus puzzles he’s pieced together he pipes up: “It’ll take a few ages for Kinsley to have fun seeing the puzzles I made.”

That’s it for now, hope some or all of these brought a smile or a “laugh attitude fit” to your day!! Until next time…sweet blessings!!

About For His Purpose~ My name is Alicia and I'm a thirty-something year old who loves Jesus. Only through God’s amazing grace and mercy I have been redeemed from past regret and shame. Reading His word has allowed me to look past Satan’s forceful lies, to see myself for who Christ says I am in Him. Through writing I have learned why I made the choices I made in my younger years and I now have a better understanding of why I desire to love God like crazy these days. Despite my daily failures, God remains faithful always. I am reassured of His unconditional love for me by every ink-drop spilled out on paper, each committed prayer as I cry out to Him, and deep understanding reflected through reading His word as truth. Yes keeping a blog will make me vulnerable to others’ opinions- there will be some who don’t understand, some who may criticize or judge, but on the other hand if just one piece expressed through my writing grabs someone’s attention and directs them to God, then pouring out my heart in a blog for the world to read is worth it. I choose to glorify Him alone through words streaming across a glowing screen. And it wouldn’t be fair if I didn’t reveal the fact that I’m incredibly quirky; I’m my loving husband’s best friend, my vivacious kids’ craziest cheerleader and spiritual trainer (3 John 1:4). I love anything farmhouse and rustic style. I think cupping a warm coffee mug in the palm of my hands is more satisfying than the contents within. I share a common obsession with my husband for the mountains, but I would (without a doubt) settle for waves crashing against my legs at the Atlantic Ocean just as well, and I almost always have a Yorkie curled up on my lap while writing. *All photos are photographed by forhispurpose.blog and therefore may not be stored or photocopied in any manner.

  1. I like the verse, and maybe the one who likes this was led to put it on the website here. I am especially glad for this verse. Thank you. We need laughter, and shouts of Joy, and at times people jump in the service when this happens. If it is God’s timing for us to shout with joy, and have laughter, It will still be done with respect to our awesome God. Some of us need to laugh till we cry. We need a sense of humor, and we are off-base when we correct an older person if they are trying to walk with God, read the Word, and stay sane. You never know what your words will do to someone who has had a longer than usual day. They don’t need some thoughts from others that are not encouraging, and joyful. Too many times people blurt out how they think, and they don’t know what kind of day I have already had. It is upsetting when people don’t get along, but my response now is to pray about it. I give it three days of praying, and then I turn to God again and say, I have prayed night and day for three days. Will you talk with them if they still have a bad attitude? God does. He always works on me, and in the three days I pray for those who are ugly for a while. It doesn’t happen often, but when they are upset with me, I listen, and then I walk quietly for awhile until I can pray for the three days. You see, it is my intent to pray for those who aren’t speaking with respect, and they are so tired that they are irritable. I would rather walk away, and not come back, but God wants me to lift them before His throne, because really, He brought them to my attention. We have many churches in America, and I respect the pastors who are working daily with people. My dad would cry at times over what people would say to him when he was pastoring a church that was really growing. The people were mean-faced instead of thankful. That was years ago, but I am sure my dad and Mom prayed for those who were ugly in their behavior. They prayed about everything. Ministry isn’t easy. Satan goes as a roaring lion seeking who he can devour. I believe he uses people who aren’t really reading the Bible. I believe God loves you whether you know it or not. He gave up His only Son to die on the cross so we can have Salvation. Jesus rose early on the third day. He is victorious, and God wants us to pray, thank Him, and walk a straight line. Keep it to yourself if you can’t be nice. Laughter will come when we have our hearts right before Him, and the Joy of the Lord is our strength. I love people, and those who I see who are struggling, or who we pray for in the service, I try to remember to pray for the three days. At times I am so tired I take a nap, rather than become irritable because I am tired. God’s sense is not ordinary. He has much wisdom, and in this day we need wisdom and God’s hand on us no matter where we are.

      1. Thank you for your thoughtful comment, Rubie. So important to laugh and live in joy through the Lord’s goodness. Loving one another well goes far, the more we do it the more hope and light spreads and shines in an otherwise crazy world. Prayer is a beautiful lifeline in our relationship with God, I appreciate your described dedication to prayer. He hears and answers just as He knows best. What a blessing we have in those truths.
Thanks for reflecting with me, have a wonderful weekend!❤️✝️

  2. I did have a laugh reading these Alicia. Thank you for sharing. I just could not deal with Grandma being on her death bed and Jeff being utterly chuffed about getting a bank account 🙂
Blessings to you and your family.

    1. Thank you, Manu.
I feel like I have to explain😅❤️I nearly held back in writing about Jeffery’s comment regarding my grandma and his bank account BUT my grandma was ALWAYS full of humor and had she been observing this like we were, she’d have been absolutely hysterically laughing..so I put it out there because it was a sweet memory in a bitter time and I know my grandma would want me to write about it to soften the rigidness of a difficult situation.
      Sweet blessings to you, Manu!!

      1. I thought it be would something that would bring laughter as you all know Jeff and that is just how he is, even if grandma was unable to participate in this one, it indeed is a bittersweet memory of her.

Way to go, Jeff!! I love his comments so much. He is certainly “a man of an adult” that puts me into a “laugh attitude fit.” HaHaHa! I wonder if we got him and Aaron together if we would both be taking tons of notes with all their hilarious comments? Thanks for sharing your amazing brother, Alicia!
