I’m gonna waste no time and get straight to raw transparency here…I’ve been in a season of life that feels like perpetual nagging in my heart and mind—downward spiraling thoughts of inadequacy, brokenness, and just flat-out self-depreciation. And it’s been tough, so tough.
I’d love to blame Covid, from a week of being cooped up in my room, away from family over the Thanksgiving break, allowing my thoughts to trail…but I’m certain the overwhelming distress would’ve caught up to me at some point regardless of Covid-isolation…Satan and a fallen world are the real culprits.
In this struggle, however, God has lead me to and blessed me with the kindest, most patient, sense-talking therapist one could ever imagine; and (as a result) even though I’m still surrounded by deep waters I can feel God’s strong presence keeping me afloat.
I’m probably 30 years past-due on counseling sessions so the content of discussion with my therapist is wide and harsh. I’m thankful for my husband and mom to debrief with afterwards.
The encouragement is sincere and passionate and for that I am grateful. Though the shoreline is a far distance off yet, my hope is fixed on an anchor of faith.
Friend, maybe you too are facing waves of difficulty in some way, but I pray you’d join me—embracing the calming, reassuring reminders of ‘God-for-us.’ I’ve compiled 22 affirmations of God’s faithfulness backed by scripture, with the intention that the solidity of these words would become more than just simple phrases and all about rich, heartfelt truth and comfort.
Read into them, pray through them, allow every single word to embody you…I’ll be doing the same.

I am sorry about the struggles you have been going through. You are right, it is straight from the enemy. But I am so glad to know you are seeking things that will help pull you out. I do understand and have been through seasons like this as well. Recently I have been struggling with a lot of things that are smaller in comparison, but they have felt overwhelming, just the same. And God has helped me to see that He is pulling me to Himself and I really need to cling to Him always. I love what you compiled here. Such beautiful and comforting truth found in God’s Word. What a loving Father we have. I am praying for you, my friend! 🙏🦋

Praying those struggles of yours work out quickly and smoothly also…on the other hand they have the potential to keep us going after Him!!! He wants us living in peace though so the the BIG goal is to overcome for His glory and keep Him close at heart no matter if there’s ups or downs.

Alicia, that is a wonderful as well as healing, compilation of scripture statements and promises. It’s been 35 years ago for me needing (in my case a psychiatrist). I lost everything (career, new business, friends, house) except what was important. Family and God
God’s words are powerful.

Indeed God’s words are powerful and uplifting. It sounds like you have a Job story of your own.
I’m surprised at how much more common it is for people to seek out a counselor, therapist, or physiatrist these days than it was even a decade ago. We’re blessed to have these resources and I’m glad so many people are taking care of their mental health. Good for you to use a therapist all those years ago when it seems there used to be such a stigma on going to or discussing mental health…boy what a difference it can make for the better!

Thank you so much for your courage and vulnerability to post this Alicia. Your words describe my life right now. I have the name of a counselor, but my hesitation was what to say and how to describe this turmoil in my heart and mind? Your blog is a goldmine of help, including God’s best treasure and tools; His word. I’ve got the verses printed and I’ll be using them to guide me based on what is happening daily. Thank you more than you know Alicia. Blessings. ❤️

Praise to God!! I want to print them out also so I have them right at hand.
There are times I go to counseling appointments and surely sound like a broken record with my worries on repeat or I flat-out can’t explain myself much like you mentioned, my counselor is so understanding and talks me through and then gives me tools different from the time before and little by little things are beginning to click. Just like I’ve made a bad habit of negative thoughts I can reverse that with positive ones but it takes time.

Little sister thank you for sharing your experience and these biblical affirmations. I will include a link to this post in my post tomorrow.
Little sister I am proud of you for seeking help. It is not easy to do at first and at times as we meet with a counselor. I am so proud of you for seeking out counseling. Sending you love and prayers.

Those collection of verses are just beautiful. As I was reading through them I felt comforted by them and I saved the post so I can go back to them. I pray that the Lord will lift you up during this time and fill you with His light and strength. I have been having to press in deeper and closer to the Lord with some of the things that I have been feeling and although it is never a good feeling to go through these sort of things they do draw us closer us to God.

You are so right, the positive is that the struggles have the potential to draw us close to Him if we choose to do so. I can 100% say I feel closer to God more than ever and that comfort that I feel (and like you described) is what’s moving me onward. He will see us through.
Praying for you right now. ❤️

Oh Alicia, thank you for being real! All of us, no matter how together our lives seem, are going through personal struggles of some sort. Satan loves that! He is no gentleman. He will come in during those vulnerable times and whisper defeat and doubt in our ears. Your words as you share all these scriptures of GOD’S words are just what we need. What I need! I’m saving your blog so I can refer to these verses because I sure need them, too. Much love to you, Alicia.

Thank you Patty.❤️you are right Satan’s job is to steal, kill and destroy…I have to remind myself this is him and his efforts—it’s not about me.
I’m thankful God’s word encourages us onward and points to Him.

You are on the front line, and this may be why the difficulties that have come to you. What you have to say is important, and the enemy likes to discourage, and frustrate those who are so active. I happened by, and I want to encourage you to keep reading the Word, no matter what kind of day you have had. It is awesome how God provided people to support you with their words in this timing. Hope to come by again, but I know that what you are doing is important. Remember, the battle is the Lord’s. The battle comes because you are effective.

I read through the Bible. I found this one day in the Bible. I had been quoting it. I use it all the time. My other verse is “No, good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. Blessed is the man, woman , who trust in Him.” Psalm 84:11, 12 I believe.

I’m reading through Psalms right now and I’m at chapter 88 so I’d just read chapter 84 a few days ago and actually highlighted verse 12!❤️

Thank you for leaving a message. I enjoy reading what you had to say about this. I read through the Bible, and I find verses to use. I mark them. It is really interesting. I have a page that I mark off, put out by Teen Challenge. I am not a teen, but I use this page, and I mark off the chapters till I have finished a book of the Bible. My goal this year is to finish 7 times. It takes reading. Smile.

Wow like read through the entire Bible 7 times in a year?!
I’ve read through it 2 times in my life using a Bile reading plan. The past few years I’ve just been reading through whatever God lays on my heart that day.

Oh, dear Alicia, I’m so sorry you’ve had to traverse a dark valley these last six months or so. But I hear hope in your words and for that I’m grateful. Praise God for a therapist who is leading you into the light of God’s perfect peace and joy. All of these positive statements, straight from scripture, are surely part of that process. Each one is like a brick in a wall, building a strong defense against discouragement and depression. No doubt you’ll be identifying even more. The discovery process is a delightful uplift in itself!

Nancy you are so right, I continue to come up with more positive affirmations! Praise to Him! And yes the discovery process along this journey has been a blessing especially as some scripture that I’ve read in the past that maybe felt flat now has new meaning and purpose, filled with hope.
Thank you for your caring words. ❤️

Alicia, thanks so much for this great list of reminders that we all need from time to time. “All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. —2 Timothy 3:16-17” Yes, “GOD EQUIPS US.” He never gives us an assignment without giving us everything we need to complete it. The “belt of Truth” is, in a sense, our tool belt. If we keep it on, we’re ready to tackle any challenge that comes our way.
