…Where to even begin this post?…I’m currently taking a class by the name of Perspectives, some of you may be familiar with the name. It’s probably one of the most challenging (yet spiritually rewarding) classes I’ve ever taken — lots of reading, extra studying, and gobs of extensive vocabulary that I’m not always familiar with. This class thoroughly drives home the point of seeing Matthew 24:14 and Matthew 28:19 come to fruition as Christians literally live out these scriptures by fulfilling the calling in each of our lives.
Matthew 24:14 And the gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
Matthew 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
When our lives follow Jesus and we have a healthy relationship and right standing with Him, we as Christians know how incredibly important Matthew 24:14 truly is. And we longingly look forward to the day of Jesus’ return. In the meantime however Matthew 28:19 absolutely has to be happening and requires our obedience!
As I’ve studied in Perspectives, my little self-focused world has been rocked in a huge way as I gain a new “perspective” on my role in helping to spread God’s word to the ends of the earth…even if it’s just right in my own community — which brings me to the idea of this very post.
K stay with me!!
My son (Warren) has come down with the flu over the past few days — no extra details needed for the sake of time and a potentially repulsive visual (you can thank me later). Anyway as I’ve cared over my boy — alternating 7up and water to hydrate him, cooled him with a wet washcloth, served him chicken broth, checked his temperature repeatedly, and smothered him with love and prayers I’ve been reminded of the many kids who don’t get that kind of treatment and honestly it breaks my heart. I work in the public school as a sub often enough to know that there’s a high amount of kids living in situations at home that are less than ideal — even when the flu isn’t present.
Soooo this has me considering that fact (and I’m sure my participation in Perspectives has caused some prodding too) …what can I do to help these kids who are living in poverty right here in my own town when flu season hits and they end up with the bug, and are perhaps left to fend for themselves?
I’m convinced the solution doesn’t need to be a complicated one. I’m thinking maybe put together bags filled with cans of 7up, bottles of water, and some Campbells chicken noodle soup, kleenex packages, etc.
This is all still very much in the beginning stages of planning. I still need to tie together details and communicate with the schools in regard to this idea, weighing out the options, and then how these kiddos would actually receive these care packages, maybe even some volunteer deliverers to the child’s home.
Any comments or advice are welcome but above all if you could just pray. Pray that if this is God’s will doors would be opened, that plans would come together tastefully so as to not offend the child or family. And then also pray over these kids who are dealing with influenza right now and don’t have these extra resources available at home to help encourage healing and build up the immune system.
I truly believe, given the right approach and attitude this could be a great ministry opportunity.
In Perspectives we learned that of the six billion people in the world a quarter of them have not yet heard the gospel message….they won’t until believers in Christ step up and share it with a great hope and mission. Some of these kiddos are in homes of people just waiting to be reached. Romans 10:13-15 serves as a good reminder — ‘for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
Thanks for taking the time to read and if you could please offer up some prayers as I take the next steps in what I’m calling The Matthew Project.
Amen! Praying for your son and for your ministry idea! God bless!

Thank you!! It’s so neat because in the Perspectives class we’re actually asked to do a project, it can be made up or one we truly live out, but they want us to come up with a mission idea…I’m actually signed up at the lowest level you can take in Perspectives and am not required to do a project but this came to mind so looks like I’ll proceed!! Definitely a God thing!!🙏❤️

Alicia, I love that you are in Perspectives! My husband and I shared our ministry opportunity (Missionaries to Children) with the group that went through the course in our area last year. In my part of the talk, I cited Romans 10:13-15. I pray healing for your son, and all who have been affected by the flu. And God bless you as you pursue this ministry opportunity. I pray His guidance, and that He will open the door for you that no man can shut. Blessings! ♥
